Part-time workers who are exempt from work on leave receive their basic pay for the hours they are required to work regularly on that day. In addition to the eleven annual federal holidays, Inauguration Day is a twelfth holiday designated by Congress every four years on January 20 following a U.S. presidential election. It is only observed by government employees in Washington DC and the border counties of Maryland and Virginia. An employee who works in the District of Columbia, Montgomery or Prince George County in Maryland, Arlington or Fairfax counties in Virginia, or in the cities of Alexandria or Fairfax, Virginia, and who must work regularly on the opening day without overtime, is entitled to a leave of absence. It is originally a harvest festival and has become a public holiday. Full-time and/or seniority workers are more likely to receive paid leave than part-time employees.
The number of seniority days can also determine the number of days of paid leave your employer is willing to give you each year.
